WARRENPOINT YULETIDE FAYRE 2009

Warrenpoint Park

Band Concert

As a public park with bandstand was a fashionable essential of Edwardian times. Warrenpoint's council obtained the land between Queen street and Princess street in December 1906 on a 999 year lease at £12 per annum, from Captain Roger Hall.

The landscaping was given to Thomas Smith's Daisy hill Nursery Newry, whilst the contract for the bandstand, which was opened on the 8th of August 1907 and which bears the town's crest, went to the cast iron founder, Walter McFarlane of Glasgow.
The good condition of the bandstand today justifies its cost of £222.
